Here We Go... 1st Recipe for 2014!!

"Save Me" Brownies
I LOVE BROWNIES!   They are my downfall…  This recipe is one I make at least once a week! They are perfect and satisfy all my chocolate cravings!! I have been following the Weight Watchers program for 3 years now and these brownies save me!!

I sometimes top them with Cool Whip Free and fruit.  Store covered in fridge OR wrap individually and store in a freezer bag in the freezer.  Just 15-20 seconds in the microwave and you have got a warm and yummy brownie!

·       3/4 c. Unbleached flour
·       1/4 c. + 2 Tbs. Cocoa powder  (I only use Hershey or Hershey dark unsweetened cocoa)
·       1 c. Sugar
·       1/4 tsp. Salt (optional…I add it)
·       1/3 c. Unsweetened applesauce
·       3 Egg Whites
·       1 Tsp. Vanilla
·       1/4 c. Walnuts (optional… if used brownies are 3 points)

Make them…
1.    Combine the flour, cocoa, sugar and salt. Mix Well. Stir in applesauce, egg whites, and vanilla. Fold in nuts if desired.
2.   Coat an 8" square pan with cooking spray. Spread batter evenly in the pan and bake at 350º for 20-25 minutes, or just until the edges are firm and the center is almost set.  (About 24 minutes in my oven.)
3.   Makes: 16 2" brownies using an 8x8 pan… Each brownie is only 80 calories!
4.   I don’t use walnuts and instead sprinkle the top of batter with ¼ cup dark chocolate chips or mini chips before baking…  Still just 2 points!

Thank you… Secrets of Fat-Free Baking

I will be back January 8th with all the best grocery buys and fabulous recipes!!
